I’ve recently been experimenting with an even bigger ball to use as a resist and shape for making felted bags: her name’s Big Bertha. You can see from the photo (she’s the purple one) that she’s considerably bigger than my usual pink felting ball, reaching a circumference of 40″ (and possibly bigger, though I was too worried about her exploding to test that out!). Although the process of felting was the same, everything needed to be upsized, with about 50% more fleece and not forgetting the XXXL tights I needed to wrap her in! In the end I really liked the size and shape of the finished bag (this one was in light coral pink and beige), so I’ll be using Bertha again to make more of these. Big Bertha is available from US company Living Felt.
