Had a fun afternoon demonstrating feltmaking at the Budleigh Salterton Food and Drink Festival at the weekend with Karen from Make at Monteray. As the wet-felting process takes a bit of time, I pre-prepared a felt bag using the ‘bag on a ball’ method. Here are some before, during and after photos. I started with laying yarns and fleece around the ball, then covered the lot in tights (I know, very glamorous) before rubbing and bouncing it to start bonding the fleece fibres together. Then at the festival Karen helped with a bit more bouncing, then we took the bag off the ball and you can see me shaping it (and rolling and throwing it) to shrink and strengthen the felt. Then back at home I sewed on a leather bag handle and magnetic clasp to finish. If you’d like to have a go at this yourself and make your own felted bag, book at www.make-at-monteray.co.uk.
