I’m very excited to share something I’ve been keeping under wraps for a few months, but can now shout (well, more like squeal really!) about, which is that a fab article has just appeared on my feltmaking workshops in the November issue of Coast Magazine!
If you look back at my other posts this year, you’ll see I started the year with my new studio finally ready to use, and I then started running workshops from the summer. In fact the very first workshop was attended by a lovely lady called Caroline Wheater, who is a Coast contributing editor. I’ve been a subscriber to Coast for at least 5 years (I think it probably helped us make our own move to live by the sea here in Exmouth), and as a fan of all things seaside and shell-like I find it quite an inspirational and interesting read. I’d been in touch with Coast and Caroline at least a year before the workshop (so it was a long time in the making), but of course that was when my studio was still very much a garage and then it ended up taking longer than we’d thought to convert. Luckily Caroline kept in touch until we were ready and we agreed a date for her to come and attend a felt bag workshop, which turned out to be a mostly bright and sunny day in June.
I love running workshops and this one was a lot of fun, with two of the participants (including Caroline) having no felting experience – it’s always great to see people’s reactions when they realise they can turn a pile of wispy fibres into fabric, and make a substantial bag out of it all to boot! It had the added difference of Caroline asking lots of questions about the specific steps (which you can read in the article) and both of us taking plenty of photos with her camera as we went along. Everyone finished their bag by the end and went away happy, the studio turned out to be a great venue and I think Caroline has captured the day brilliantly in her article.
I’ve already started planning workshop dates for 2020, so if you’d like to come and give wet-felting a go yourself, just have a look at my workshop page here for more details.
